Discuss Fleet ServicingWhat we see regularly — and how we sort it
Golf cart batteries don't last forever. If your cart isn't holding charge like it used to, it's almost always the batteries. Most electric golf carts use 4-6 deep-cycle batteries (6V, 8V, or 12V depending on the model), and they've got a lifespan of about 2-4 years with regular use. After that, they start losing capacity. The thing is, batteries fail as a set — if one battery in the pack is weak, it drags the rest down. We test each battery individually under load to see which ones are actually delivering power. Sometimes people replace just one or two batteries to save money, but that's rarely a good idea — the old batteries will just kill the new ones. We'll give you honest advice about whether it's worth replacing them all or just limping along for a bit longer.
A clicking noise when you press the accelerator is almost always the solenoid trying to engage. The solenoid is basically a heavy-duty relay that connects the batteries to the motor when you want to move. If the batteries are too low, the solenoid clicks but doesn't fully engage — there's not enough current to pull it in and hold it. Sometimes it's a faulty solenoid itself, but usually it's weak batteries or a bad connection somewhere. We test the battery voltage first, then check all the main connections for corrosion or looseness. Battery terminals on golf carts corrode easily because they're often stored outdoors, and a corroded terminal acts like a resistor — it limits current flow and causes all sorts of weird issues. Cleaning terminals and tightening connections fixes a lot of "mysterious" problems.
Power loss on hills usually means weak batteries or a failing motor. When you go uphill, the motor draws maximum current, and if the batteries are getting old, they can't deliver the amps needed. The voltage sags under load, and you lose speed. Another possibility is worn motor brushes. Electric golf cart motors use carbon brushes that press against the armature to transfer current — as they wear down, you get less power and eventually intermittent contact. Brushes are a wear item and need replacing every few years depending on use. If your cart has lost power gradually over time, it's probably batteries. If it's sudden, it's more likely a motor or controller issue. We test it properly to figure out which.
Golf cart batteries die fast for a few reasons. First, they're deep-cycle batteries designed to be discharged and recharged regularly, but they don't like being left flat. If you drain them completely and leave them sitting, the lead sulfate crystals harden and you lose capacity permanently — that's called sulfation. Second, undercharging or overcharging kills them. If the charger isn't working properly or you're not charging them fully after each use, they deteriorate fast. Third, corroded terminals or loose connections create resistance, which means the batteries work harder and wear out quicker. And finally, heat — batteries stored in hot sheds or left in the sun age faster. We check the charger output, test the batteries under load, and inspect all the connections to figure out why they're dying and whether it's worth replacing them or if there's a deeper issue.

Common questions about golf cart servicing
Yes! We service golf carts for retirement villages, lifestyle communities, and private owners throughout the Rockingham area. We can arrange on-site servicing for larger fleets (discuss on a case-by-case basis), or you can bring individual carts to our workshop. We understand that communities rely on their carts for daily transport, so we prioritise repairs and offer fleet maintenance packages.
Electric golf cart batteries typically last 2-4 years depending on usage, maintenance, and storage conditions. Regular charging, keeping terminals clean, and storing them in a cool place can extend battery life. If you're only getting 1-2 years, something's wrong — could be the charger, could be how they're being used, or could be poor quality batteries. We'll test your batteries and charger to figure out what's going on.
We specialise in electric golf carts. Our expertise is in electrical systems — batteries, motors, controllers, wiring, and charging systems. That's what we know inside out. For petrol/gas golf carts, we recommend finding a small engine mechanic who specialises in that area.
Battery replacement cost depends on your cart's voltage and battery type. Most golf carts need 4-6 batteries. A full battery replacement (all batteries) typically costs $800-$1,500 including fitment, depending on the battery quality you choose. We can provide a quote once we know your cart's specs. For fleet customers, we offer volume pricing on battery replacements.
On-site servicing is available for larger fleets in the Rockingham area, depending on the job. For example, if you've got 10 carts that need routine maintenance or battery replacements, we can come to you. For single carts or smaller jobs, it's more efficient to bring them to our workshop. Give us a call to discuss your specific needs and we'll work something out.
We service all brands of electric golf carts including Club Car, EZ-GO, Yamaha, and others. The electrical systems are fairly similar across brands — batteries, motors, controllers, solenoids. Doesn't matter what brand it is, if it's electric and it's broken, we can likely fix it. Not sure if we can help with your model? Give us a call.
Golf carts aren't road-legal, so you can't just drive them to our workshop. If you've got a trailer or ute, you can bring it yourself. If not, we've partnered with a local transport service to offer pickup and delivery for golf carts. Coverage from Mandurah up to Cockburn/Fremantle and all areas in between (Rockingham, Waikiki, Baldivis, Secret Harbour, Kwinana, and more). Transport fees vary by distance — call us for a quote and we'll sort it out.
